Major Description

Management is designed to prepare students to be leaders and innovators in analyzing and solving managerial problems that every organization faces in its day-to-day operations. To be effective, managers must be able to design organizations that can compete in complex and volatile business environments, as well as execute their strategies within these organizations. Effective managers also must be ethical leaders and competent decision makers who formulate goals and long-term plans, build effective teams, and motivate their employees.

Concentrations:

There are three concentrations within Management.

Studies how business opportunities are identified and exploited to create wealth.  This concentration is intended for students who are interested in new venture creation. Entrepreneurship will prepare you for a career as an innovator with an existing organization, a manager in a creativity-driven field, or a developer of new business ventures.

Provides students with a broad knowledge of managerial processes.  Most management majors will start as management generalists, gaining experience and company/industry knowledge.

Designed to provide students with the sound understanding of international business principles and the managerial issues faced by multinational companies. Those who opt for the International Business concentration have an added interest in the managerial issues faced by multinational companies, as well as the political, cultural, and institutional differences among nations.

Courses That Introduce the Major:
  • Pre-College of Business Coursework
    • Composition I requirement (Can be met through RHET 105, CMN 111/112, ESL 111/112, ESL 115, or   34+ ACT for English and the 690+ SAT Score with 710+.
    • ECON 102—Microeconomics Principles (Can also be met through ACE 100—Agri Cons and Resource Econ)
    • ECON 103—Macroeconomics Principles
    • MATH 23 Calculus for Business or STAT 100 - Statistics
